The Sweetlead Team

Our team of teachers and assistants are passionate about helping people discover the joy and fun of learning salsa.  We believe in teaching with solid technique and foundations for both leaders and followers to ensure you can progress and develop into the dancer you want to be.

We also believe in creating a warm, fun and inviting environment for people to learn and socialise.  You will find our entire teaching team dancing with everyone from the moment classes finish until the last song is played at the social.

Trevor 'Sweetlead'

Trevor ‘Sweetlead’ is that all too rare combination of excellent dancer and exceptional teacher. His ability to clearly convey the finer nuances of leading and following techniques as well as a fun loving nature make Trevor’s classes a real favourite with students.

Trevor has been teaching salsa for over 15 years and teaches both in the UK and internationally. He has worked professionally as a trainer and qualified as a martial arts instructor. Not only does he have many, many years teaching experience in a variety of fields, he also has a heartfelt passion and enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge and skills.

Trevor usually teaches the improver (Level 2) class as well as the intermediate/ advanced class assisted by dance partner Heidi.

Heidi

Heidi discovered salsa by accident over 25 years ago and completely fell in love with the dance and all that comes with it in terms of fun, friendships and fitness.

She has been teaching salsa for more than 20 years now. She is warm and welcoming and able to put those new to salsa at ease whilst ensuring they master the core fundamentals of the dance.

Her focus in the more advanced levels is ensuring that followers also receive tips and guidance for improving their dance.

Heidi loves social dancing and over the years has has gained a reputation for being one of the best ‘followers’ in the business.

Alan

Despite coming from a dancing family Alan only discovered salsa 14 years ago. He loves salsa dancing as it keeps him fit and sane (relatively!) and he is constantly making new friends.

He is integral to the smooth running of Sweetlead Salsa. He is there every week to help with all the behind the scenes work involved in running a Salsa night. You will also often find him stepping into our beginners or improvers classes to fill gaps and even out numbers.

He is also always available for advice or to answer questions or provide some extra teaching support for our new students.

Chunky

Originally one of our guest teachers but we love him so much we made him part of the permanent team.

Chunky's classes are lively and fun, centring around breaking down the most difficult moves, techniques and components into manageable chunks, and linking them seamlessly to look and feel very fluid.

He is renowned for his cheeky charm, bad jokes and blocking the exit so you have to stay and dance at least a few tracks to practise.  The perfect combo of solid technical tuition and endless fun!

Elery

Elery has been dancing salsa for 20 years and teaching core principles and musicality across multiple styles for 15 years.

With a background in dance (contemporary as a teenager) and Martial Arts (Taekwondo) Elery understands movement and technique.  The combination of knowledge and an approachable and charming personality makes him super fun to learn from and dance with.

Elery looks after our level 2 improver students.

Jax

Jax always had a passion for dancing in her youth but life and family commitments meant it wasn’t something she was able to pursue. However, 17 years ago she discovered salsa and hasn’t looked back since!

She is an essential part of our Sweetlead Salsa nights.

The consummate multi tasker she will also jump into classes to fill gaps at a moment’s notice and is always available to answer questions or provide some extra teaching support for our new students. Warm and welcoming, she is always ready to dance and make sure everyone has fun.

Jo F

Jo's dance journey started with Trevor & Heidi at Trent Park and she has never looked back.  Now dancing On1, On2, and Kizomba as well, Jo's passion for dance is clear.

Jo is friendly, approachable and dances with everyone.  Now part of the team, Jo is more than happy to help and offer advice to students starting their own dance journey.

Jo is also one of the friendly faces that may greet you at our club.

Jo R

You know you have arrived at the right place when greeted by our Jo. Her warm, welcoming, friendly and professional approach is the epitome of Sweetlead Salsa. We are so lucky to have her as part of the team.

Make no mistake, Jo was already an accomplished dancer when she joined us. Dancing On1, On2,

loves a Cuban dance and you can grab her for a Kizomba as well. Just ask her to dance.

Have a question about Sweetlead Salsa, our classes, workshops or events? Jo is your girl.

Martin

Martin has been teaching salsa for 20 years and previously ran his own successful club in Hertfordshire.

He still guest teaches around the area and joined the Sweetlead team a few years ago where he is one of our level 3 teachers.

Martin loves dancing and is all about passing on the passion for salsa and ensuring all his students have fun.

Sasha

Sasha has had the shortest salsa journey so far of our team members but she is the perfect example of how motivation and an ongoing desire to learn and continually improve has taken her from beginner to valued assistant teacher of our level 3 class in less than 5 years, including the dreaded covid break!

There are many things that Sasha loves about salsa, such as the welcoming and supportive atmosphere and the opportunity to step out of the stresses of everyday life into a world where you can just live in the moment.  Oh, and the fact that she met her husband in salsa.  He is also a Sweetlead teacher!

Simon

Simon has been dancing since he was a teenager and took up salsa 22 years ago.

He's now been teaching (on and off) for 15 years with an emphasis on having fun.  He loves to teach "dance", not just "moves", along with a keen eye on technique, making his classes very popular.

He loves social dancing both on1 and on2 with followers of all levels and has gained a reputation for being a smooth, musical and smiley lead.

He teaches the level 2 men's footwork and level 3 partnerwork classes.
